Service closing permanently on 3 November 2026 - action required

Unshadowed hosting will shut down permanently on Monday, 3 November 2026. After many years, we are closing the hosting service. This affects every website, email account, and database hosted with us.

What happens on 3 November 2026

• All websites hosted on our servers will stop working.\n
• All email accounts on our servers will stop receiving and sending mail.\n
• All files, databases, and mailboxes will be permanently deleted.\n

What you need to do before then

2. Download a full backup now. In cPanel, go to Files → Backup → Download a Full Account Backup. Do this even if you are not ready to move yet.\n
3. Save your email. If you use webmail, your messages live on our server only. Export them or set up your new provider and copy messages across.\n
4. Arrange new hosting. Any standard cPanel host can import the backup file above.\n
5. Move your domain name. If we manage your domain registration, you will need to transfer it to another registrar. Domains are separate from hosting and you will not lose your domain by moving hosts, but you must update its DNS to point at your new provider.\n

Important: your nameservers

If your domain currently uses ns1.unshadowed.net and ns2.unshadowed.net, it will stop working on 3 November - even if your website is hosted somewhere else, and even if you have already moved the domain to a new registrar. Our nameservers switch off with the server, and a domain whose nameservers have gone offline stops resolving completely: no website, no email.

When you set up hosting elsewhere, your new provider will give you their own nameservers (they usually look like ns1.yourprovider.com). Change your domain to use those. This is a separate step from moving the domain itself, and it is the one people most often miss.

• 27 October 2026 - last day for support requests, so please do not leave it to the final week.\n
• 3 December 2026 - backups retained until this date. After it, nothing can be recovered.\n
